YOU CAN PICK ANY ANIMAL FOR THE RESEARCH PAPER.
YOU CAN PICK ANY ANIMAL FOR THE RESEARCH PAPER.
Paper Structure: The paper must include a Cover Page, Outline, Body, and Works Cited page, all of which can be submitted as one document or separately in Assignment 14.
Works Cited Page: Quotes should be removed from the Works Cited page used in a previous assignment and only the sources should be listed.
Citations: Emphasis on proper citation format and placement of periods, with examples provided for clarity.
Page Number in Citations: Page numbers must always be included in citations. For internet sources without page numbers, students should estimate the page number.
Direct Quotes and Paraphrases: Each requires proper citation. Quotes should not be strung together; a paraphrase should follow a direct quote.
Common Knowledge: The professor challenges the notion of common knowledge and insists on citing sources unless the fact can be validated by at least five credible sources.
Plagiarism: The professor strictly warns against plagiarism and outlines the consequences as per the Student Handbook and Code of Conduct.
Specific Source Citations: Guidance on how to cite when multiple sources have similar titles or authors.
Alphabetization of Works Cited: Instructions on how to alphabetize sources correctly, taking into account words like “The.”
Pronoun Agreement: Correct usage of pronouns when referring to animals (singular “it” or plural “they”).
Animal Names: The importance of consistent and correct capitalization of animal names in the paper.
Following Directions: A reminder to adhere to the given directions and not to alter them.
Conservation Message: A poignant note on the dire situation of animal conservation, highlighting the alarming rate of elephant poaching.
Read the attachment (WHICH I HAVE ALSO SUMMARIZE ABOVE). It is required reading. Be sure to read about stringing quotes. (Also, as you know if you’ve been doing assignments, these are not your only directions for the research paper. You were required to have read all assignments leading up to this one).
1) The majority of your paper MUST have citations ( ) whether you use paraphrases or quotes. Each fact, paraphrase, and quote must have a citation ( ). Except for your first paragraph, your paper should have a citation for nearly every sentence to say where you got that information. Don’t be shy about using citations. I expect your paper to be filled with them. You cannot say to me, “I knew that.” And you must also have a works cited page. Also, be sure to read the attachment above about period placement, plagiarism, and other important things before you submit your final paper.
Finally and however, and above all, do not put quotes side by side (which is called “stringing quotes”) in the following way even though a citation comes between:
“The cheetah runs 75 mph” (Smith 4). “The cat has long fangs” (WWF 2).
It doesn’t matter that a citation separates the quoted sentences. It doesn’t matter which sources are in the citation, doesn’t matter if the sources are the same or different. You cannot put quotes side by side. Instead, follow quotes with a paraphrase. You may put paraphrases side by side. You will lose four (4) points each time you string quotes. This is further explained in the attachment.
