The Final Paper Instructions attachment has all of the guidelines/instructions.
The Final Paper Instructions attachment has all of the guidelines/instructions. Please follow them very carefully.
– The other attachment, (references formatting guidelines) is to show you how to do them correctly.
– I also attached the lecture video regarding, that you could possibly relate to as asked to do in the final paper instructions.
– The disease and topic you will write about is: Huntington’s Disease
– You are going to need to apply one or more of the mechanisms/principles that are specific and related to this disease (this is explained in the second paragraph of the final instructions paper).*important* – maybe antagonistic pleitropy could work as one but double check on that please. (I attached a link below with the instructors video info on this particular mechanism so that you can relate or refer to it if it does indeed apply to this.) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fL2xyxrVwL5MktK3u… file should be called “antagonist pleiotropy lecture notes as reference.”
TW – Here are the instructors extra comments to be more clear on the paper (to keep in mind) …
1. Don’t worry too much about being completely original, just please don’t repeat the same things from course material and don’t plagiarize any sources. Do not use the same combination of disease + evolutionary explanation from course material. You can pick a disease we discussed but put it in the context of a different evolutionary explanation than when it was discussed in course material. You may also choose to use a disease that was not discussed at all in our course material, and you can put it in the context of an evolutionary theory from course material.
2. It’s fine to talk about just one evolutionary theory, and also fine to talk about more than one.
3. It’s fine to have just one source, and fine to have many more— just use as many as you need to support the points you want to make. There is no advantage or disadvantage to having more or fewer sources. It’s fine if the textbook is your only source.
4. Please try to be accurate in your use of terms to describe different lifestyles: for instance, be specific in using terms like small-scale societies; subsistence economies; foragers or hunter-gatherers; horticulturalists; small-scale agriculturalists. Also, be sensitive how you talk about different countries and parts of the world— you might want to use terms like developing countries, low- and middle-income countries, global South. These terms are better than terms like “third world” which can be offensive. Also, please try to be accurate in the way you refer to time, thinking about what it means to be “ancient” (~5kya-1.5kya) , “pre-historic” (before the advent of written language), Pleistocene, Plio-Pleistocene, Paleolithic, etc.
5. Just take up the amount of space you need to say what you want, no bonus for longer paper, within the guidelines (3 full pgs minimum, 5 full pgs maximum).
6. Doesn’t have to cover a specific number of ideas. Can go into depth on one idea or go through a few different ideas.
7. Length of paragraphs — the number of sentences per paragraph won’t be counted, so if you go over 6 it’s okay, as long as the paragraph doesn’t feel too long. The important thing is that each idea gets its own paragraph. If you go over 6 sentences per paragraph and the paragraph feels like it’s rambling, this will get marked down.
8. No title page, no running head. APA just for citations
9. Fine to use first-person, like “I argue that…” But it’s not necessary.
