The movie, “Philadelphia” is a 1993 American Drama Film. The inspiration of this movie was based on similar events in which a lawsuit was filed in 1987 for wrongful dismissal of an attorney in one of the first AIDS discrimination cases. The Philadelphia law firm, Baker & McKenzie was sued by Attorney Clarence B. Cain. Attorney Cain was represented by Attorney Geoffrey Bowers.
Kaposi Sarcoma
One of the clinical signs common in the AIDS stage of HIV is Kaposi’s sarcoma. These lesions appear on the skin and are flat, painless, reddish purple in color (white skin) or bluish, brown or black (dark skin). Unlike bruises, these lesions do not change color when you press on them.
When a person becomes infected and lives with being HIV+ it changes their personal behavior. The news is threatening to the individual’s self-concept and it may threaten role relationships with family and friends. This movie addresses HIV/AIDS, homosexuality, and homophobia.
