People have shown aggression throughout the years. According to Baron and Branscombe (2012), aggression “is the intentional infliction of harm on others” (p. 356). Males tend to be more aggressive than women but it depends on the situation. Sexual jealousy is also a factor in determining aggression. Men get jealous over sexual infidelity and women tend to get more jealous over emotional infidelity. It has also been shown that people who watch violence in the media, tend to show aggression over time. This is because you are ramping up violent thoughts while weakening your mental restraints of aggression.
personality traits can also be determining factors in aggression. Type A behavior tends to be more aggressive and irritable compared to type B behavior. Also, it has been shown that people who are narcissistic hold such a high opinion of themselves that they will act aggressively against anything that can threaten their ego.
Many factors can influence someone’s aggression. Heat has been shown to increase aggression in people. The feeling of uncomfortableness can increase aggression. But, too much heat has been shown to decrease aggression. Alcohol consumption has also been shown to increase aggression in both women and men. It is believed that alcohol affects an individual’s ability to reason and process information.
In some cultures having aggression is shown as a positive trait. Being a soldier, boxer, MMA fighter, football player, and many other professional sports tend to favor aggressiveness. People who are in the “business world” also tend to favor those who are considered aggressive.
Question: do you think that with the rise of video games and parents who are tired after working all day, do you think aggression is getting worse in our youth today? Especially with boys?

What are the demographic differences that determine who is (more) likely to be aggressive? Are rates of violence consistent across ethnic groups, sexes, and worldwide? Explain these patterns.
Aggression is a part of human social behavior that has evolved over time. Demographics like geographic location, culture, age, gender, race/ethnicity, biological factors (genetics or hormones), and socioeconomic status are variables that can influence aggressive behavior. Branscombe and Baron (2017) highlight the cultural variability of aggression between collectivist cultures like China and individualistic cultures like the United States. Violence is inconsistent across the world due to a plethora of complex environmental factors. Gender differences in aggression are apparent across different cultures. “Overall, then, women and men do differ considerably with respect to physical aggression, but these differences are not uniform: Rather, the extent of the difference depends on the costs, type of aggression, and also age” (Branscombe & Baron, 2017, p. 342). Another demographic difference would be access to violent entertainment and media.
Identify the key predictors of aggressive behavior. Using your knowledge of social psychology, analyze why these factors are most influential on aggression.
The most important key predictors of aggressive behavior is dependent on one’s environment and situational circumstances. “Although the terms violence and aggression are sometimes used interchangeably, a distinction between them does exist. While aggression can be defined as any behavior that Is intended to harm another person who is motivated to avoid that harm, violence is as a specific form of aggression with the aim of inflicting extreme damage to another person” (Stefanile et. al., 2021, p. 921). Negative adolescent experiences like abuse and neglect or witnessing domestic violence in the home are risk factors for aggression in children. Stefanile et. al. (2021) researched how attitude toward violence, self-esteem, emotion dysregulation, anger, and acts of aggression were all psychological predictors of aggressive behavior. Many of the environmental factors that increase aggression overlap; for example, cultural acceptance of gun use and alcohol consumption in the United States in addition to the climate change of increased temperatures can all intersect at once to increase the likelihood of aggressive behavior.
Under what circumstances is aggression perceived to be a positive attribute?
Aggression is not inherently a bad thing. “While overt aggression is clearly a destructive force, some recent experiments suggest that anger, and related emotions like frustration or irritation, can also bring some advantages – provided we know how to channel the energy arising from those feelings” (Robson, 2020). When utilized properly, aggression can be an asset to sports players, military personnel, engineers, and law enforcement. Robson (2020) states that the benefits of aggression are mobilization, the spark of creativity, constructive confrontation, psychological distance, tact, and discretion. It is crucial for these positive advantages of aggression to be harnessed effectively and put to good use.
Question: As discussed above, aggression can be an asset to sports players, military personnel, and law enforcement. Also, it has been proven that women are often less aggressive compared to men. Do you think this trait negatively impacts women’s success in professions where aggression is necessary?

One key outcome of this course is to provide you with the skills to analyze different research articles.
Instructions:
For this assignment, you will write 1 critical review of a journal articles listed in your assigned readings. Each review will be based on a journal article of your choosing, from those listed in the course readings (available under Content/Course Videos & Resources/Articles).
Each review should be 3 pages long – not including cover page and reference page – in APA format. Answer each of the elements listed below in a separate paragraph. That is, you do not need to weave all elements together into a seamless paper. The papers will be graded in the usual way for content and format. Each of your critical reviews should address the following 9 elements:
Provide the full APA style citation for your article.
Brief note about each author (e.g., where they work and what they study). If there are more than three authors, just include the first three.
List the researchers’ hypotheses.
Describe the study design (e.g., correlational study, observational study, randomized controlled trial, etc.). This can be tough. Refer to your textbook and feel free to ask questions of your classmates.
What were the independent and dependent variables? How were each measured?
What were the main results or findings?
How do you think this study impacts our understanding of humans and human behavior?
Make one connection between this study and your personal or professional life.

Final Research Paper and Presentation
(12 Pages) (APA citations) (in-text citations are a must)
(Must include a PowerPoint)
Topic: Domestic Militant Religious Groups and The Use of Violence
This paper will be your opportunity to deeply investigate a topic that has interested you in the course. You may begin this paper at any time, but at least by the end of Week 4, choose a topic relevant to social psychology, and obtain topic approval from your facilitator.
Using your approved topic, you will do two things:
Write an APA style paper in which you:
identify which textbook chapter you selected
define and describe your topic
describe at least four research studies or experiments that have been conducted about your topic, and
connect your topic to a popular press news story.
(APA style, approx. 12 pages)
2. Create and submit a Power Point presentation
Share what you learned with the class by developing a power point style presentation. (You may use another program to create your presentation, but please do not use a program that requires a subscription to view). In this power point, you will:
describe your topic
teach your peers about what you have learned on your topic, and
provide your peers with references and suggestions of where they could go to learn more about the topic.

This paper addresses the central question of if cyberterrorism is a pressing issue and a threat to the U. S’s most critical infrastructures that the human race relies on a daily basis. With particular reference to the critical discourse of the President of the United States, insight on if the rocky foreign relations the US has with other countries presents if there is an impending threat of cyberterrorism. President Biden, while acknowledging issues of warfare and propaganda in his address (2024), argued there were no realistic threats, and the American people should not be worried. Texts from the Council on Foreign Relations were analyzed on the grounds of proving if Biden’s claims were sufficient. Overall, instances of denials of service (DoS) and ransomware attacks have presented themselves across the U.S.’s critical infrastructures over the past five years. There have been drawbacks of injury, frustration, and system complications with cyberterrorism and responsibility being claimed by a variety of foreign superpowers that have only increased in severity over time. It can be inferred from these findings that the President and his team should recognize these cases as prominent threats and take them seriously to work toward an action plan toward cyberterrorist prevention and the safety of the American people.
This abstract is for a paper that I wrote for another Regis class around cyberterrorism and its growing threat on the U.S.’s critical infrastructures. In the beginning, I struggled in constructing the abstract, as I only thought they were for research papers with hypotheses, sample sizes, experiments, etc. My paper was more research than experiment based, so I found it hard to make the mental shift that these kinds of papers can have abstracts as well. Luckily, the APA guidebook came to use with tables 18.4 and 19.1 with focus questions, orientation of the text, and how it strikes the audience. Abstracts “can ‘sell’ your research. It’s a snapshot that can draw in, or put off, potential readers.” (Wallace & Wray, 2021, p. 240) so it is important to put in enough information to draw them in, but not too much to turn them away. This process found that my writing style is very dependent on first-person language, as I was struggling to not include “I” or “You” in the abstract. First-person, to me, feels very relatable and engaging, which is how I like to come across as an author. However, I need to practice my academic voice more especially for the upcoming capstone. Finally, my thesis in my original paper was a little hard to identify, as I do not explicitly state my argument in one sentence. It is scattered around the first couple paragraphs, so if I were to rewrite it, I would make it more concise and clearer what the argument at hand was to parallel the abstract

This paper addresses the complex relationship between active social media use and loneliness, focusing on the roles of interpersonal relationship satisfaction and Fear of Missing Out (FoMO). The analysis explores the dual nature of social media, which can both alleviate and exacerbate feelings of loneliness. By examining existing literature and empirical studies, the paper highlights how high satisfaction in interpersonal relationships can protect against the negative impacts of social media use, whereas high levels of FoMO can intensify loneliness. Key findings suggest that the effects of social media are not uniform but are significantly moderated by individual psychological factors. The paper concludes that a nuanced understanding of these factors is essential for developing strategies to mitigate the adverse effects of social media on mental health. Recommendations for future research include exploring additional moderating variables and creating interventions to reduce FoMO among users.
Writing this abstract was challenging. Condensing a detailed analysis into 150-200 words required me to concentrate on the main elements: the problem, thesis, key arguments, and conclusions. The main difficulty was effectively communicating the essence of my analysis without omitting crucial details. This process highlighted aspects of my writing style, such as my tendency to provide extensive background information. It also revealed that my thesis and supporting points needed to be more clearly stated.
