Imagine that you have a sister and brother, both in their early thirties, neither of whom has married. Your sister has just become a pioneer in human cloning and has had a daughter by cloning-her exact genetic twin. Your brother has just had a daughter via services of an egg donor and gestational surrogate, with whom he was previously unacquainted and whose services he contracted through an agency. Now answer three questions about how you would respond to this hypothetical scenario: (a) Would you regard the cloned child as your sister or as your niece and what is the reason for your decision (b) Would you regard the cloned child of your sister as a closer relative than your brother’s child born via surrogacy or as equivalently close and how might your feelings about this affect your relationships with these two children? (c) Does your logic give priority to kinship as a genetic relationship or as a social relationship?
