Video Outline Assignment
You will complete one Video Outline Assignment as preparation for your Video Presentation Assignment. This outline will incorporate content you have learned throughout the course so far. Along with what you have learned about identifying a research topic and question, locating scholarly sources that give some additional context to your topic and question, and determining the kind of research method you would like to use to answer your research question that you identified as an area of interest toward the beginning of the course. The Video Outline Assignment is submitted as a separate assignment from the Video Presentation Assignment, even though it is closely connected to the Video Presentation Assignment.
Instructions
Students will also demonstrate current APA style formatting.
Acceptable Sources
Throughout the content of your Video Outline Assignment, you must support your assertions with scholarly sources as described in the instructions below.
Acceptable sources include the current Introduction to Research textbook (this source is specifically required for this assignment.) Plus, include a minimum of two more of the sources that you used earlier in the course, which can include the current edition of the Publication Manual, video presentations throughout the course, and the scholarly sources you used in your assignments earlier in the course.. Include properly formatted in-text citations within the content of your outline to support your content.
Acceptable Formatting
You are not required to use complete sentences in the outline. However, it is acceptable to use complete sentences if you prefer.
Use APA Style headings for your outline. Review section 4.26 in the Publication Manual, “Writing From a Outline.” This brief section gives some ideas for organizing. However, our assignment varies from the last sentence in that section in the manual this way:
Do use APA Style headings for this outline.
Do not use Roman numeral headings or other kinds of formatting.
Assigned Topics and Content. Do not re-write these instructions word-for-word into your outline.
1. Introduce yourself, including your major, possible career interests.
2. Based on these interests you identified, what is a research topic that interests you? What is the research question that you would like to study about that topic?
3. Describe the related journal articles that you found during your Module Two essay. Explain how this literature fits into your interests. What kind of background information do these journal articles add to your area of interest. This will be a brief review of the literature section.
4. Based on what you have learned in our course about various research methods, which method would you prefer to use to help find an answer to your research question? Use information from the Introduction to Research textbook and other course materials to help you identify which method you prefer to use. Be sure to include proper in-text citations and references listings. (Hint: Your essays from Modules Two, Four and Six will help you along with other assigned textbook reading assignments and viewing assignments.)
5. What are some strengths and some limitations with your preferred research method? Back this up with statements from our course content.
6. Discuss how these strengths and limitations you identified in the previous question influence issues of reliability and validity.
7. How would you go about collecting your data? There can be various applicable ways to collect data depending on the research method you are using. You select the ways you would collect data. What difficulties might you encounter collecting your data? How would you go about analyzing your data? Why is this the best approach to use for what you are doing? Note: For this assignment, you will not actually collect data, or analyze it, or report your findings. But if you did have to gather and analyze data, how would you go about doing it?
8. Conclude with a summary statement telling what your research question is, the method you think would best help you find out about that research question, and challenges or limitations you might encounter.
