Your paper will be typed and double-spaced. I will be evaluating both form and content in your writing. That means your grammar, sentence structure, spelling, etc. need careful attention. I expect that everyone can write a clear, thoughtful essay that displays interesting, relevant observations and honest, knowledgeable opinions.

CONTENT:

• Introduce your paper by relating your overall impression of the play and the production (NOTE: there is a difference between them). Include in your thesis paragraph(s) an evaluation of the acting. Consider analyzing one performer that made an impact on you and why.
• The body of your essay will evaluate in depth the topics you introduced.
• REMEMBER: be constructive; don’t be hyper-critical; be honest and sincere; back up all your opinions with valid reasons.
• DON’T discuss the plot of the play.
• Select one scene from the play that made you laugh. Describe the comedy that made an impression on you. Was it physical humor? Or comedy of character? Or farce? Why? Provide details.
• Your evaluation of the production aspects of the play may include commentary on the directing, set(s), lighting, and sound as well as any other aesthetic observations.
• Analyze some of the conventions established in this production. Summarize your paper by accounting for the general response to the production by the audience and any lasting impressions the play had on you after the performance.
