Spec Commercial for Client
For your final project you will create a spec commercial based on free stock video footage, audio, and the logo you made for Project #1. A spec commercial is a sample piece of work that shows off your video style, competence, and most importantly, ambition. To “work on spec” basically means you’re working on the speculation that your commercial will be bought. In this scenario you are going to make a web based commercial for the client that you designed the Project #1 logo for in the hopes that they will like it, and pay you for it. Working on spec like this is a common technique for creatives in the Multimedia field.
You will download all of the free video and audio clips that you will need for the project from the links provided, and decide how you will interpret, and edit the clips together into a 1 minute spec commercial. You will also use sound design/sound effects, and music to help enhance your story. You have complete freedom to do what you want with your project, however, each cut/edit needs to be thought out to make sense; you can not just place random clips together into your project without thinking about how the placement effects the overall meaning. Your commercial MUST make sense based on the client’s needs and goals. You should review your Creative Brief and all of the information provided during the Mock Client Interviews to obtain information for this project.
Your completed videos will be uploaded to YouTube, so you MUST only use content that you have the license to use. Please review the lecture on copyright, and keep track of the locations you download your media from so that you can provide proper credit.
Project Relevance
This project is important because learning to edit video is a big part of working in the field of multimedia. Content creators often need to edit video for websites, mobile apps, video games, Youtube, etc.
Steps to Complete this Project
1.) BRAINSTORM ideas for the project by:
searching Google and Youtube for ideas
reviewing the video clips available for you to use at the bottom of this page
create an outline describing what you would like to accomplish that can be used as your blueprints for the project
2.) DOWNLOAD video clips that you have a license to use (you may also shoot your own video clips)
* You must only use videos in the HORIZONTAL orientation, and at the resolution of at least 1920 x 1080 (HD video)
* Each video clip used in your project can NOT exceed 5 seconds
3.) EDIT your videos into your Sequence/Timeline
- 4.) ADD at least THREE transitions (you can add more than three if you choose to)
- 5.) ADD the Logo: Add the logo that you designed for Project #1 somewhere within the video
- 6.) CREATE closing titles/credits at the end of your project
* The closing titles/credits must include credits for all video and music used for your project
*The duration of your titles/credits are not counted towards the required length of your project
7.) ADD music or spoken word to your project
8.) EXPORT your project based on the settings on this page
9.) SUBMIT a link to your video uploaded to Youtube to the Final Project Discussion Forum
10.) SUBMIT a link to your video uploaded to Youtube to this location
