The objective of this assignment is to help you develop a deeper understanding of the components of the Business Model Canvas (BMC) and how to use it to identify and formulate business assumptions and hypotheses.
The objective of this assignment is to help you develop a deeper understanding of the components of the Business Model Canvas (BMC) and how to use it to identify and formulate business assumptions and hypotheses.
Instructions:
Part 1: Understanding the Business Model Canvas
Begin by reviewing the provided materials and resources on the Business Model Canvas (BMC) and its nine building blocks.
Familiarize yourself with each building block of the BMC, including Customer Segments, Value Proposition, Channels, Customer Relationships, Revenue Streams, Key Resources, Key Activities, Key Partnerships, and Cost Structure.
Part 2: Analyzing a Business Model
Choose a real-world company or startup that interests you. You can select a well-known company or one that is less familiar but has publicly available information about its business model.
Create a simplified Business Model Canvas for the chosen company. Fill in each of the nine building blocks based on your understanding of how the company operates. You may need to conduct some research to gather information about the company’s business model.
Part 3: Identifying Assumptions
Examine each building block of the Business Model Canvas you created for the selected company.
Identify the assumptions that the company is making in each building block. These assumptions are statements that the company believes to be true but has not yet validated with evidence.
Record these assumptions in a separate document or worksheet. Be clear and specific about each assumption and its corresponding building block.
Part 4: Formulating Hypotheses
For each assumption you identified in Part 3, formulate a testable hypothesis. A hypothesis should be a clear and specific statement that you can validate or invalidate through experimentation or research.
Identifying Assumptions and Hypotheses Using the Business Model Canvas
Your hypothesis should relate to the building block in which the assumption was identified. For example, if the assumption is related to the “Channels” building block, the hypothesis should pertain to the effectiveness of the chosen distribution channels.
Record these hypotheses in the same document or worksheet where you recorded the assumptions. Organize them by building block and corresponding assumption.
Part 5: Reflect and Conclude
In brief conclusion, reflect on the importance of identifying assumptions and hypotheses in the context of business modeling. Discuss how validating or invalidating these hypotheses can impact a company’s strategy and decision-making.
Submission Guidelines:
Submit your assignment to canvas as a typed document containing your Business Model Canvas, identified assumptions, and formulated hypotheses.
