For instance, the cover letter will require you to balance being selective with your information and providing enough memorable, persuasive examples. The resume will require you to think about effective organization of information about your own experiences. Although these documents are one page, and only one page each, every word counts.

In the past, students have been able to use their career documents to help them acquire internships and job positions. I highly encourage you to work towards this goal.

You will generate two main documents regardless of what the advertisement requests from you: a Cover Letter and a Resume. Any additional materials required will depend on the position you seek. A graduate position may require, for example, a writing sample. If this is your selected position, you will include this in your submission as well. If you are intending to apply to graduate school or if you want to use your documents to apply for an existing position, I will gladly help you work on extra documents beyond this assignment. Questions to consider: Are you…

meeting (or will meet) all the (reasonable) requirements put forth in the ad? (Note that you may have to project some of these requirements, e.g. degree or skills you may acquire in a future class.)
creating compelling language and formatting (e.g. error-free, confident, and supportive of your abilities and qualifications)?
persuading your reader to hire you, given the criteria set forth or implied by the advertisement?
providing effective support for the claims you make about your qualifications?
Once you have submitted your materials, you will have the opportunity to review and provide feedback to other students through peer review.

Create a resume and cover letter that respond to your selected ad.
Submit all three documents, including the ad. Make sure you take a screenshot or have the ad saved as a file; do not merely submit a link, as links can change or go away.
Complete your peer reviews that are assigned after the due date/time automatically by Canvas. If you do not submit your work on time, Canvas will not assign your peer reviews.
