Current public health issue

Consider a current public health issue- preferably in your area of interest and complete the following discussion:

1) Describe the population

2) Choose one of the research methods that were presented in the lecture that you would use if you wanted to answer a question regarding this population’s health.

3) Write two paragraphs: First, describe the population you chose and why you chose them; Second: describe why you chose the specific research method and describe a hypothetical study and why it would be helpful.

EXAMPLE- DO NOT DUPLICATE:

1) People who have been diagnosed with HIV infection whose viral load stays low even without medicine (elite HIV controllers) for a long period of time.

2) Case Report: (NOTE: while HIV is not a rare disease, elite controllers are a rare phenomenon in this population)

3) Using case reports to describe elite HIV controllers is a valuable research method because it allows for detailed documentation of unique individual cases where patients naturally control HIV without antiretroviral therapy. These case reports provide in-depth information about the clinical characteristics, immune responses, and genetic factors of elite controllers, which can help identify potential mechanisms of viral control and inform future research and treatment strategies (Lohse et al., 2007; Walker & Yu, 2013).

Furthermore, case reports can highlight rare and novel findings that may not be evident in larger studies. By focusing on individual cases, researchers can explore the complexities and variations in immune responses among elite controllers. This detailed analysis can uncover important insights into how some individuals achieve viral suppression, which could lead to the development of new therapeutic approaches for HIV management (Deeks & Walker, 2007).
