Introduction

In this assignment you will be using the Cuyamaca College Academic and Career Pathways Website to explore a major of interest. You can start with a major that was suggested through the Career Coach AssessmentLinks to an external site., a suggestion from a friend or family member, or one that you’ve always been curious about. This does not need to be a major you have decided on or are committed to yet. The purpose of this assignment is to help you learn how to research an academic program at any level and be able to apply this skill to current and future goals.

Once you decide on a major at Cuyamaca you may also need to select a transfer pathway. After completing an Associate or Bachelor’s degree, you may want to continue education through graduate school or professional development. At each of these steps there will be some research involved. 

For the purpose of this assignment let’s start with majors at Cuyamaca College. Use the Academic and Career Pathways WebsiteLinks to an external site. as a starting place. The website categorizes Cuyamaca College majors by Academic and Career Pathways (ACP’s). See video below to learn more about ACP’s. You will then select a major to research and use the website to look up information related to the questions below. 

This assignment is in a discussion format so you all can also learn from each other and utilize peer briefs to review additional majors you may not have considered previously. You are not required to respond, but feel free to use the discussion format to ask clarifying questions or meet others who may be on a similar path to you (eg: Hey, I noticed you’re also interested in Social Work. My name is Lena, hope to see you in some other courses soon!)

Which required courses are you are you most excited about (select at least three)? Utilize the catalog linked on each page to refer to required courses.
