Academic Poster
Academic Poster
Introduction
This final assignment will help you dive into a specific career or career path and answer a central question created by you. This question should tie into selecting a major or career path but may be slightly different depending on where you’re at in your journey. Some of you came in with an idea of what you wanted to major in and are taking this course to validate that decision. Some may still be open and exploring different options. Either way you will select one career to focus on in this project and answer a question in order to focus your research. You do not need to be limited to the following questions but some to consider include:
- Am I still interested in <insert career>?
- What excites me the most about <insert career>?
- Can I see myself working in <insert career>?
- Does <insert career> capitalize on my strengths and align with my values?
- What skills do I need to develop to be successful in <insert career>?
You can use a variety of resources in order to conduct this research. I encourage at least two including a website with trusted data. Some additional resources to consider are included below. Your final presentation will be in the format of a virtual poster. Feel free to use images if you would like but it is not a requirement. This exercise will also help you condense your research into a format that is able to be communicated to a larger audience. I have included both a video that discusses the importance of Academic Posters in addition to a template with some guidelines. Feel free to use the template to create your final presentation. I did not want too much time to be spent formatting, but more on the content and communication. I want to emphasize I am not a research expert, but this assignment is to help guide you through the intentional and investigative research process in order to think about career strategically and be able to present on a specific career or industry. A large portion of career development is the ability to present and communicate your skills, values, and strengths and how it relates to a potential job or your decided field of study. This is done in your resume, through interviews and when creating a LinkedIn. The more you practice articulating who you are, what you’ve accomplished and making that connection to a field of study the more successful you will be through the job search process.
