Purpose of Assignment:
This is a personal development opportunity to use proven leadership assessments to identify your leadership behaviors, and identify areas you may want to improve. Having positive leadership characteristics will create better relationships with employees, peers, team members and even bosses. Better relationships produce better job satisfaction and higher loyalty and retention! And a positive leader will be able to consider others’ ideas and generate a more cohesive and inclusive vision for an organization, a workgroup, or a project team. The assessments used in this assignment include both your own self assessment of these characteristics, as well as from 5 “raters,” people who can provide information about their perceptions of your leadership styles and behaviors. You’ll use this information to create a meaningful, and actionable, leadership development plan.
Description:
In developing your leadership development plan, we will use the following steps to be documented in your report:
Analyze data from your Developmental Readiness Report, Big 5 Personality Assessment, and your Full Range Leadership Report. The Developmental Readiness Report and the Full Range Leadership Report were e-mailed to you from the Center from Leadership and Strategic Thinking ([email protected]). You should be able to view your Big 5 Personality Assessment in the Survey you provided on Canvas.
Data Gathering on yourself and others.
- Analyze and identify High vs. Low Performance areas using a comparison matrix.
Develop an Action Plan using SMART Goals for both Developmental Readiness and Leadership States.
Creating a Leadership Development Plan can be very challenging – trying to answer the question “how do I compare” to other leaders and “what do I need to work on” are intellectually difficult to tackle without some benchmarks.
- To aid you in this effort, this exercise will have you compare yourself to 3 individuals in your life – a Role Model, your Best “Supervisor” and your Worst “Supervisor.” When selecting a leader that you admire for their leadership traits and characteristics, consider someone that you believe is a good “role model” for the type of leader you would like to become. You will use a comparison matrix to compare traits and characteristics.
