Students will describe their own experience as an adolescent and relate it to the developmental information presented in class. Students will also discuss how to apply their own personal experience to counseling adolescents and working with parents of adolescents. Students will also analyze how their experiences could help and/or hurt their ability to counsel adolescents and/or work with parents of adolescents. 

The paper should be 5 to 7 pages in length, including a title page.

Per general APA guidelines, this assignment should be typed and double-spaced, with 1″ margins on all sides, and 12 pt. Times New Roman font. Professional writing is expected of all students including spelling, grammar, syntax, etc.  

The paper should be organized into three sections.  

Section 1 should contain:

· A short review of the student’s personal experience as an adolescent

· A comparison of this personal experience to the developmental theories, counseling issues and applicable special issues discussed in class

Section 2 should contain:

· A summary of what personal experience the student feels would be useful in counseling adolescents

· A summary of the approach the student will use when conducting individual and group counseling with an adolescent

· How the student will include the parents and possible entire family of the adolescent in counseling, and a rationale for this

Section 3 should contain:

· Specific issues that the counselor feels they would be particularly effective with in adolescent counseling, with evidence from personal experience

· Specific issues that the counselor would find difficult to deal with

· How the student would deal with such issues if they should come up in counseling
