The purpose of this activity is not only to get a second person to review YOUR letter but also to give you the opportunity to practice providing helpful feedback. Feedback has powerful influences on learning because it serves as a basis for self-evaluation, ability, and self-regulation of learning behavior. If you can identify flaws in someone else’s letter, that practice should help you be more critical of your own work. Being able to provide and receive feedback will not only help you grow in academia, but also in your workplace. Constructive feedback is vital to employees’ ongoing development. Feedback clarifies expectations, helps people learn from their mistakes, and builds confidence.
