In my first discussion post, I really focused on the heart and soul of ethics and how leadership reflects that. After spending time developing my understanding, I have learned that laws, morals, and religious beliefs coincide with ethical decision making.
One of the things that was constantly reinforced throughout these 8 weeks is the significance of leadership, and how our actions trickle down throughout the organization. Ethical leadership is effective and helpful (Ali et al., 2022). If we do not hold our values and beliefs to high standards, our employees are much more likely to act unethically.
Finely it was noted that ethics is something that is not necessarily held accountable within the standards of an organization. There are many gray areas in ethics, and not all unethical behaviors are given consequences even though they might be constituted as wrong. Overall, this was a very insightful class that absolutely helped me grow as a leader.
