• I must admit that I consider myself quite lucky to be able to live in a time where we can easily access a wealth of information and cutting-edge technologies. As an FNP student, I have several resources at my fingertips to assist me with assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans. I have to admit that I was anxious to begin my clinical rotation at the beginning of classes. I don’t know every possible diagnosis or treatment plan, but I felt as though I had to. However, the physician with whom I am working has over 40 years of experience and she utilizes smartphone apps to direct her plan of care. The fact that I could cross-reference with this app as needed gave me a great sense of relief. Throughout my course in the FNP program, resources like books, journals, medical libraries, and mobile applications have all proven beneficial. Many reliable resources have been observed to be used in the clinic to evaluate and provide patient care, mobile applications like Epocrates (Maggio et al., 2019).
• Epocrates is my preceptor’s personal favorite and has officially become mine too. Epocrates works with a group of physicians, pharmacists, and associates to filter and summarize research data so that medical professionals can confidently rely on their application. Epocrates is a user-friendly internet and mobile application that offers both inpatient timeliness information and clinical reference data (Grundy et al., 2019). It provides comprehensive information on pharmaceuticals, including drug interactions and instructions for dosing patients with certain conditions (Grundy et al., 2019). Physicians and other medical teams often use Epocrates during patient visits to get current drug information promptly (Cerra & Apicella, 2023). Its exceptional user-friendliness makes it an ideal tool in bustling clinical environments. It facilitates the identification of treatment regimens and suitable maintenance procedures that are user-friendly and readily accessible (Grundy et al., 2019). The significance of this tool lies in its ability to decrease instances of pharmaceutical mistakes and enhance patient safety, making it a crucial component for healthcare practitioners (Cerra & Apicella, 2023; Grundy et al., 2019; Pinkoh et al., 2023).

Moreover, Epocrates allows users to review clinical practice guidelines organized by the age group of the patient they are treating. One particular feature that I love is the manufacturer/pricing tab. This allows the clinician to compare medication prices based on generic or trade names. My preceptor is very considerate and orders the most economical choice for each patient, taking into account their financial situation.
