There are some of you that may believe that it’s not a good strategy to put all your eggs in one basket (and I agree, if we were really spending money), but this is just an exercise. It will allow you to gain some familiarity with the market, and hopefully a level of comfort. You will track the stock’s performance over the next eight weeks on the attached Stock Monitoring Worksheet. You will need to enter the closing price two different days during the course of a week, starting with this week. To arrive at the number of shares to be purchased, simply divide $10,000 by the closing price for the day (September 12th). There are lots of sources for the closing stock price. I find yahoo finance easy to use. I would not worry about fractional shares. Just round the shares to the nearest whole share, You will then sell the stock on November 17th. I have also included attached a video demonstration for completing the spreadsheet. The worksheet attached has Apple data in the cells (note: I made up the share price for the September 23rd and November 18th). You just need to enter into the cells your company data, and change the file name when you save it.
In addition to the spreadsheet, you are to do a write-up on the Company setting forth the reason you selected the company as well as summarizing a recent article.
