As discussed extensively in the lecture from week 7, and in the tutorials, the exam will cover each of the three metafunctions, ie interactional (including validity), compositional and representational. Visual-verbal relations may be mentioned but are not critical.
The length of the response is approximately 2000 words, +/-10%. We won’t be too worried if it is a little more or less than that, but obviously if your entire answer is more like 1000 words, then you are likely not addressing key components. Similarly, if it’s closer to 3000 words, then you need to tighten up your style.
The response should be in essay form (ie well structured, with academic language and some referencing), but as it is also done in exam conditions, ie fast!, we are not expecting perfection as for an essay where you have several weeks to prepare it. Focus on clear writing which gets the analyses and your interpretation across. The two-day time period is to allow you to work around other commitments; it absolutely should not take two full days to do, especially not if you are prepared!
There will be a TurnItIn link in the ‘submission’ section below WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS EMBEDDED IN THAT LINK, and it will be released at the time of the exam, ie 9am Monday 20th. You prepare your response in a word doc as for any essay and upload it. Once uploaded, you will NOT be able to resubmit.
