1) Review what the course has taught thus far, and the major points and examples you’ve take away;
2) Engage in peer review and feedback in a detailed, meaningful way.
This discussion is worth double the standard one, and thus it requires that you spend more time with it. Please plan accordingly.
Instructions:
1. Review the course content all the way from the start of the course to our most recent module, and determine what you think the 4 more important events/transformations were in terms of global impact. Discuss those, and make sure to provide examples from across our texts (book, lectures, primary sources). Cite properly and often. Do not quote. This section should be 450-500 words.
2. At the end, ask your colleagues for feedback on specific parts of your work. This means, really think about it: if this were a draft review stage and you really wanted honest feedback to help your success, what parts of your own work do you think you’d like people to focus on and help you out with by providing their feedback? Main ideas? Thesis? Topic sentences? Examples? Citations? Use of detail? Formal tone? Organization? Think about this and ask colleagues, and explain why. This section should be 85-125 words.
3. Respond to two colleagues with real substance and feedback, being responsive to what those colleagues asked others to review but also providing any other feedback you feel is needed. Do not just compliment your colleagues; be constructive. Take the “sandwich” approach, which is to say something positive about their work in the first sentence, then for the rest of your post provide the constructive feedback on how to improve, and then at the end close with an encouraging sentence again. This is really a great way to practice what you’ll be doing in upper division courses and, if you continue, in graduate school.
