I would like you to write a course reflection essay. This essay should encompass the struggles and victories you had this semester with our course.
One way to organize your paper might be to take each category of assignment (essays, assignments, discussions, quiz) and discuss your favorite and/or least favorite in a separate paragraph. You can give me a narrative of how you went about achieving each assignment. For example, did you do research? (I did) Did you ask a family member for help? (I did not)
You can also arrange your essay according to assignments in each category that you enjoyed and ones you did not enjoy so much. Tell me why a particular assignment was interesting to you, or why it wasn’t for you. It could be you enjoyed the paper on a poem and a song, or maybe you found it challenging. Tell me why.
Be sure you include in your paper your overall assessment of how you view poetry and its different forms now that you are through with our course. I want an overall impression on whether you loved poetry coming into the course and now you know more about it…or maybe you were intimidated by poetry and now you feel you can read it with some ease.
Make sure your paper has an introduction, with a thesis. Your thesis can be as simple as “I am now a poetry lover!” or as complex as “I used to find analyzing poetry difficult, but now I know more about meter and types of poetry, and I feel I can use this information to successfully enjoy more poems in the future.” Use your thesis as a way to guide the organization and structure of your reflection. Also be sure your paper has a conclusion that signals how you feel overall about your grasp of poetry now.
Your reflection essay should be unique, and using a conversational tone is encouraged. Yes, it is ok to write this in the first person. It is, ultimately, your own reflection!
