Post #1 JOSE: My reasonable expertise level in informatics was good as I have always been comfortable with technology and data analysis, comfortable meaning that I can developed very well. However, after taking the TANIC Self-Assessment, I realized that there are many areas in which I can get better knowledge and improve. The survey helped me identify specific areas and think about concept where my knowledge and skills could get better. Two competencies that I identified as strengths in the TANIC Self-Assessment were data management and information literacy. I have a strong knowledge of how to manage data effectively and consistently thought the years that’s why I am confident . In addition there is another area where I feel proficient is in finding, evaluating, and using information responsibly in benefit of the patients and saving my time. Two competencies identified as growth opportunities were health informatics and information technology. While I have a basic understanding of these areas, the TANIC Self-Assessment showed that I could have a potential benefit from continuing education and training to fully utilize these tools in my healthcare work place. This provides an unprecedented opportunity for the development of computational techniques to dig data-driven insights for improving the quality of care delivery, (Wang F. Preininger A., 2019). To enhance my competencies, I plan to study additional courses in health informatics and information technology. This will give more tools and knowledge with a deeper understanding of these areas and how they can be applied in a healthcare setting. Additionally, I plan to seek out opportunities for hands-on experience, such as internships or volunteer positions, to apply what I have learned in a real-world context. Resources to support my selected strategies include online courses and webinars, textbooks and other educational materials, and professional organizations in the field of health informatics. Additionally, I can seek out mentors or advisors who can provide guidance and feedback on my progress. We have to be proficient in data and informatics because with EHR we all have to know how this works. Federated learning holds great promises on healthcare data analytics. For both provider (e.g., building a model for predicting the hospital readmission risk with patient Electronic Health Records (EHR), (Min X, Yu B, Wang F., 2019).

Technology and information management are skills in which I am proficient. However, my TIGER Self-Assessment revealed areas where I could enhance my proficiency. As an involving field, remaining updated is crucial for effective nursing practice. Health systems rely on nurses to have strong informatics knowledge and skills with positive attitudes toward informatics(Monsen et al., 2019). This is important because a large portion of the nursing profession involves technology. Two competencies I identified as strengths include the ability to navigate communication channels effectively, such as email, and the skill of instructing computer tasks—for instance, uploading, downloading, and creating folders. In addition, more than technology proficiency is needed to translate to informatics competencies (Monsen et al., 2019). For instance, I identified two areas of growth during my assessment that needed to be improved, but they were not, per se, technology-based. One is obtaining, storing, and disseminating text, data, images, or sounds legally, and the other is options for recycling computer components and printer cartridges. To enhance my competencies, I can use strategies such as participating in the NR583NP and staying engaged with lectures and discussions. I can focus discussion topics on my lower competencies. Another way to enhance my competencies is by practicing my skills in a live environment and applying them to everyday situations. Identifying resources to help support selected strategies is critical to growth in informatics—for instance, research is one strategy (Seckman, 2023). Specifically, my research revealed that we can legally quote text in the United States, but photos, sounds, and graphics require consent obtained contractually through a license (Roder?Hießerich, 2023). I also identified a second resource by applying my real-life scenario. I contacted my local waste company to find out how to dispose of my electronics correctly in my city. I learned that electronic waste could be picked up from my home free of charge. In conclusion, I feel that after completing this course, I will have a remarkable change in my competencies on my TIGER Self-Assessment. The assessment allowed me to notice my weaknesses, so I could focus on them throughout this course. Undoubtedly, informatics learning is not just beneficial but essential in the field of nursing. We must adopt a continuous process to stay relevant and improve technology and information management in healthcare.

My perceived proficiency level in Informatics compared to my TANIC self-assessment responses are very similar. Before the survey I knew that regarding computers I am extremely proficient and have no difficulty navigating programs, files, or any other necessary components or supporting features. During the survey, the skills presented regarding computer usage were all skills that I can do and perform daily. Regarding the usage of informatics in nursing when it comes to patient information protection and the use of the EHR before and during the survey I regarded myself as proficient in the competencies presented. While I identified most competencies as strengths, I believe the competencies that I am the strongest at are the usage of the computers; such as emails, creation of files, using programs, etc; and being able to utilize EHR’s effectively to capture patient data. Two competencies that are growth opportunities are security and demonstrating procedures that assure confidentiality of protected patient health information (PHI). Security, especially cyber security, is always changing and I believe it is a competency that always has room for improvement and education. And the demonstration of maintenance of confidentiality for patients is always an important growth opportunity as it is a key factor in our work, and we must stay up to date on ways to protect patient privacy.
One strategy can be taking education to assure that you are up to date on security measures taken by your facility to avoid any information breaches. This includes taking the courses supplied by your facility regarding situations such as phishing and the maintenance of safe and secure passwords to protect your account from being breached. A strategy for maintaining patient confidentiality is to always follow policies regarding patient privacy and assuring that any access to the EHR that we may have is not breached, which goes hand in hand with the need to stay up to date with cyber security. According to a 2019 study, these programs educate on cyber security and how to avoid risks positively impact an individual’s ability to safely navigate the web and reduce security risk (Aldawood & Skinner, 2019). This is important as it supports the idea that the programs that are offered by facilities for cyber security are effective in teaching us how to avoid our information being breached. This strategy and method go in tandem with maintaining patient confidentiality as if access is breached via security attack, then it would impede patient confidentiality.
