Write an introduction that introduces yourself to the reader
Stewart-Steele 1 Final Exam Portfolio Project Instructions Purpose: To showcase a sample of student-selected, polished essays written for this course; to demonstrate whether a student has met the course outcomes. Audience: Composition professors in the English Department. Portfolio Assignment: Ten percent (10%) of your final grade will be based on the work you have included in your portfolio. Your portfolio must include the following: ✓ One (1) Reflective Cover Letter written at the end of the semester. ✓ One (1) Edited Researched Argument Essay ✓ One (1) Additional Edited Essay, Selected from (Annotated Bibliography or Explanatory Synthesis) Reflective Cover letter The cover letter should argue for your portfolio choices. This is an extremely important piece of writing because it shows how you write now, without any feedback from me. It is important that you give it your time and attention. Be sure to discuss how the feedback you received from me and your peers have helped you to revise your final selections. You should expect someone to use the cover letter as a way to review and assess your writing style for strengths and weaknesses. Be transparent about your strengths and weaknesses. Your cover letter will need to • • Identify problematic areas and describe the specific changes made to the selected essays. Examine how these changes have impacted the final, polished essay. To structure the cover letter, you should: 1. Write an introduction that introduces yourself to the reader 2. Create separate paragraphs where you discuss each of the major revisions you made to your essay by identifying what the problems were, how you resolved and revised the problems, and why your revision made the essay better. The selected issues should be different for each essay. 3. Write a conclusion. You will generalize your strengths and what you still need to work on for the writing you will do in your future college courses. 4. MLA Format, 12-point font, Times New Roman, single spaced. Length: Your reflective essay should be about 1-2 pages long, edited carefully for grammar and mechanics. It should be a very polished, finished product. Stewart-Steele 2 Revising Your Essay: Both of the essays will need to show the corrections you argued for within the cover letter. First highlight the area that needs correction in (Green). Next you will present the corrected text next to the highlighted green area in (RED) bold font. Consider revising in three phases. First phase: Global Revisions. Read my comments about organization and development of your ideas. Your essay should be revised for content, organization, and development. If on your first attempt you did not meet the minimum page length requirement, now is your opportunity to develop your paper further to meet the goals of the assignment. This writing is also your opportunity to revise your introduction, ensure that you have a thesis, a counterargument (if applicable), and a well-developed conclusion. Second phase: Grammar and Mechanics. Read my comments about grammar issues. Since this is the final product, you will have to pay attention to grammar and mechanics. In other words, grammar will “count” in this final product. Third phase: Polish and Present. Read to catch errors that spell check will not catch, such as words that are spelled correctly but are not the words you want to use. Be sure that each of your essays, including the cover letter are presented in the correct format. How to Assemble and Submit Your Portfolio You will present your portfolio as one document, meaning that the cover letter, the researched argument essay, and your choice essay will be combined into one document, making it easier for the portfolio grader to scroll through and read your essays. The order of the document should be as follows: Cover letter MLA format. Earliest edited essay (Annotated Bibliography MLA format or Explanatory Synthesis APA format) Most resent edited essay (Researched Argument MLA or APA) All portfolios will be submitted to canvas using a .pdf document.
