“Paraphrasing and Avoiding Plagiarism.”

According to the first video, Plagiarism is the practice of taking someone else’s work or ideas and passing them off as one’s own. Plagiarism can lead to serious consequences. For example, in school, taking credit for someone else’s work could mean you fail an assignment or class. In the workplace, it can result in damage to your reputation, legal repercussions or even losing your job. Luckily, there are a few strategies that can help us to avoid plagiarism. First, always cite our sources. If we are discussing information without quoting, is important that we use our own words. This strategy can help us say something new and original. Plagiarism can save us time and effort, but in the long term it only hurts us.

According to the second video, Paraphrasing is a way to avoid Plagiarism, but there are many things to have in mind to do so the right way. Paraphrasing is a tool we can use to summarize content from a source in our own words. We can use the Paraphrasing to help our audience to better understand a complex message. Also, we can shorten a length explanation, and by doing so, we can show that we understand what we read. There are a couple of rules we must follow to correctly paraphrase: #1 is Know our source, we must be familiar with the source and avoid reading it. #2 Is name our source. If we do not name the source, is plagiarism. #3 Is find our own voice. Finding synonyms for the original words is not paraphrasing is plagiarism. #4 Do not change the author’s original message. When we paraphrase, we cannot change the meaning of the author’s message. #5 Cite our source. For doing so, we can use different formats such as APA or MLA. It is very important to pay special attention to how we paraphrase because is very easy to fail into plagiarism.
