Speech Critique Paper (Worth 35 points. Due MONDAY 11/6 BY 11:59 PM)
You will need to examine a public speech of your choosing. It cannot be one that I provide in class lectures. Please provide a link to the speech at the end of your paper.
Summarize the speech (be clear and concise) in the first paragraph.
Be specific and detailed in examining and critiquing both the speaker and the speech.
Use concepts from course material to support your claims and make connections.
Discuss what you learned from watching the speech.
You have creative freedom on how you reflect on the speech in regard to your opinions. But I am looking to see if you are being an ACTIVE audience member (being able to summarize the speech, make observations, critique on what the speaker did well or could improve on, critique how the speech content itself was, reflect on what you learned, and whatever other feedback or notes you’d like to address).
Requirements:
Paper should be 1-2 pages in length.
Paper must be in 12-point font, Times New Roman, double-spaced, include page numbers, and have 1-inch margins on all sides.
No cover page needed. Include your name, the class, professor, and date in the upper left hand corner.
Turn it in as a WORD document on the assignment itself on Canvas. Advice: do not use Google Docs and attempt to convert it, it messes up the format and is not fun to fix!
Points awarded depend on:
Was the speech summarized in a clear and concise explanation?
Did the student examine and critique (*critique can be both positive or negative) both the speech and speaker?
Did the paper incorporate related concepts from the course materials?
Were all parts of the prompt attended to?
Was the paper well-written (using good grammar, punctuation, sentence structure)?
