At the end of your semester, you will write a 4-5-page essay reflecting on your social and cultural positioning and what you have learned from the course. You will reflect on your experiences and connect them to course concepts. Your essay should be organized into an introduction, a body, and a conclusion, the three elements constitute a typical composition. The body of your essay should include your personal reflection, class content reflection, and final takeaways from this class, including the aspects or questions that remained unaddressed.
Introduction (5 pts): The introduction should reflect your central idea and the main points, Your central thesis should be both descriptive and evaluative. That is, you will preview the key aspects of your reflection and articulate the overall evaluation of your learning of intercultural communication.
The body of your essay should be organized under the following three headings. Also, feel free to add any aspect that you think significant to be included in the essay.
Personal Reflection (15 pts): The first main point should bring your personal reflections. You may start with your perception, attitude, and positionally before you started this intercultural communication class. Then, describe how you started the journey, what concepts, ideas, or topics challenged you as well as your socioeconomic, political, and cultural positions, perspectives, views, and experiences, and how you resolved or mediated the challenges. Class Content Reflection (10 pts): In this section, you should reflect on your experiences and encounter with the class contents including the topics and chapters, class activities and exercises, and presentations by your course instructor. What did and/or did not work well? What other ways could it be more effective for students to learn more effectively about the critical topics covered in this class? Feel free to include your perspectives and learning from various chapters and refer to the chapters to reinforce your learning points.
Final Takeaways and Intercultural Justice (10 pts): This section should specify at least THREE takeaways from this class. If you were asked to summarize the course into three key learnings, what would they be? Make sure you include your aha moments here, which are salient and powerful. How could your takeaways shape your engagement in intercultural justice using the ACT framework? What steps or points of the intercultural justice framework did you find compelling for your potential engagement? Also, include some topics, concepts, theories, ideas, or critical questions that you anticipated in this class but remained unresolved.
Conclusion (5 pts): Now, summarize your essay and restate your central thesis. Make sure you use different wordings, instead of just copying the introduction. Conclude your essay with a final thought.
Clarity, Brevity, and Coherence (5 pts): Your essay will also be evaluated in terms of the clarity and brevity of your writing and coherence and cohesion between the points and ideas presented.
