Write Presentation Script
You are here to write a 1000 words script. Following below instruction. Final Presentation: 7-10 Minutes (350 Points) Video of Speech (175 points) and Uploaded Transcript (175 points) Compose a 7-10 minute persuasive speech on a topic of your choice. I encourage you to return to the issue you dealt with in your Persuasive Speech, but even so, you must expand prior work with research from two sources and a supplemental handout or visual aid. As always, your occasion, persona, and imagined audience can be fictitious, and you make this clear in the preamble (mandatory). You should target a specific group, whether organizational, professional, or academic, and shape the argument accordingly. You will submit a full transcript for your presentation, as well as your supplemental document. This presentation will be evaluated on the following three things: 1. Audience Centeredness (100 points total: 50 from speech, 50 from transcript) Audience centeredness means you will need to use the techniques discussed this semester effectively to engage your specific audience. How you do this will depend on your imagined scenario, topic, and intent. Consider balancing your appeals to Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. Pay attention to the audience’s experience and knowledge. Your language (especially how you approach technical or specialist terms) and tone will be important. Bear in mind your audience’s intelligence and core values as you prepare. 1. Persuasiveness (100 points total: 50 from speech, 50 from transcript) Your focus is on constructing a sound argument. You must engage with at least two sources to support your claims and increase your credibility. Introduce, signal, and acknowledge your sources both in writing and verbally during your presentation. Acknowledging sources is critical to academic integrity, and it enhances the speaker’s credibility/ethos. Consult the prompt for the Persuasive Speech and the handout, ‘Source Engagement for the Final Presentation,’ as well as the Pocket Guide (pages 85-94). Use MLA format in your written narrative of your speech. 1. Supplemental Component (50 points total: 25 from speech, 25 from transcript) Use a single PowerPoint, Prezi, handout, poster, video, or another visual component to enhance the appeal of your argument for your audience. You should integrate this into your presentation, not merely show/distribute it with no engagement. I advise you to keep your supplement simple and to rehearse your use of it thoroughly. I will evaluate effort and integration more than the sophistication of your supplement. Review Part 6 of A Pocket Guide to Public Speaking if you need help. If you are unfamiliar with software programs like PowerPoint, visit the computing center’s web site (http://computing.artsci.wustl.edu/node/354), which has video tutorials.
