While browsing the books of Edoward Gorey, notice how fairy tales and other kinds of children’s literature influenced, shaped, and affected his own work–either through his own “fake fairy tales,” to his work in his own miniature books (for kids or otherwise). Notice any other recurring themes, visual references, or genre parallels. Essentially, look to see what Gorey felt was important to save and collect.

Then choose 1 illustration/image from any of the books that strikes you as particularly interesting/intriguing, etc.

1. Write a 1-2 page (300-ish words), double-spaced close-reading review of what the image reveals, in terms of themes and/or aesthetics (how you feel when you view it).
