Example:
Song: “I Want to Break Free” by Queen
I feel that the song “I Want to Break Free” by the band Queen is a great theme song for Martin Luther. In this class, we read about how Martin Luther desired to read and interpret the Bible for himself in vernacular languages (other than Latin), and believed that lay people should be able to do so as well. In addition, Martin Luther wrote the “95 Theses” and boldly nailed them to the door of his local house of worship in an act of strength and defiance. In these ways, Martin Luther wanted to break free, just as the character in Queen’s song did. The lines “God knows… got to make it on my own. I’ve got to break free” sound like something Martin Luther may have been singing to himself as he nailed the “95 Theses” to the church door. The song would also be a great soundtrack for a modern movie on Martin Luther’s life.
