IDS103: Statistical Intuitions & ApplicationsAssignment 3 (Research Report)Overview:

This is a GROUP assignment. Each group member must provide a summary (approximately 250 words) of their contributions at the end of the submitted report.

In this assignment, you will take a dataset, generate research question(s) based on it, then carry out statistical analyses to address your question(s), and then interpret your findings. To do this you will need to draw on the concepts and LOs covered throughout this course.

Your report should be less than 1500 words and consist of three main sections (Introduction, Procedure & Results, and Conclusion). You should use this report template as the basis for your report. You may use any code from the lessons or previous assignments in this course.

• Step 1: Select Your Dataset
• Each group should come together and select ONE dataset from this list. You can find descriptive information and can explore each dataset before deciding.
• Step 2: Generate a Sample Dataset to Work on

Once you have selected a dataset, navigate to this .ipynb file. Identify the dataset you will work on and run the code to obtain a sample dataset. Save this CSV file.

NOTE: One student in the group should run the code – otherwise each student in the same group will obtain different datasets.

Step 3: Research Questions

Now that you have your sample dataset, you are ready to generate research questions! You should do this as a group and agree on what you want to study.

Your research questions should directly relate to, and follow from your dataset. If you find it tough to come up with your own questions you can look at the “Example Research Questions” here for examples.

Hint: Start with what you want to learn from your dataset, then think about which statistical tools to apply to address the questions. You can also work backward: think about which statistical tools could be applied to the dataset and what conclusions can be drawn from such analyses.

Step 4: Prepare Your Research Report

• Navigate to the report template and follow ALL the instructions.

Grading: You will be graded on the LOs that we covered in this course. To obtain a high score you will need to demonstrate a strong application of these LOs (i.e., a direct and thorough explanation, justifying each decision or calculation that you made and fully interpreting the result). Referring to the LO rubrics in the Outcome Index when explaining and justifying your use of these LOs is highly recommended!

#Variables: Identify and classify the relevant variables of a system, problem, or model.

#DescriptiveStats: Calculate and interpret descriptive statistics appropriately.

#Visualizations: Interpret, analyze, and create data visualizations.

#Correlation: Apply and interpret measures of correlation; distinguish correlation and causation.

#Distributions: Identify different types of distributions and make inferences based on samples from distributions appropriately.

• #InferentialStats: Apply and interpret confidence intervals, statistical significance, and regression.

#CompProgramDesign: Generate working programs in a computer language that can solve computational problems; find and fix bugs that appear in them.

Submission: You will be required to submit the following files for this assignment:

Secondary Resource: zip folder including the following:

CSV file of your group’s sample dataset

ipynb file including all of the code you used in your assignment.
