This type of bullying that people may be exposed to through social networking sites and various Internet applications, is a form of intimidation that frequently permeates teen online interactions. Recently, there has been a lot of concern about cyberbullying, which affects how youths develop as people and can result in uncomfortable behaviours. To reduce the risks of cyberbullying, there should be more awareness among parents and educators. They can follow the following tips and teach them to the targets of bullying, which serve as countermeasures to be used to control and largely avoid cyberbullying: 1- Report cyberbullies: Block and report any account that tries to bully you or your child on social accounts like Facebook, X (Twitter), etc, using evidence that includes screenshots, sound clips, and videos of the bully and their act. 2- Protect your data: Use strong passwords and create different passwords for each account to secure all of your passwords and mobile devices and encrypt your data to shield confidential information and files that include sensitive information from a harasser. 3- Spread awareness: Create campaigns and organizations to try to put an end to it and spread awareness on how to deal with the harasser and what is considered harassing, while keeping an eye out and urging those who you think might be the targets of cyberbullying to get assistance. . Page | 12 Analysis of Proposed Countermeasures The proposed countermeasures aim to address concerns related to cyberbullying and reduce its negative impact on individuals, especially adolescents. Let’s analyze each countermeasure: Reporting Cyberbullies: This countermeasure emphasizes the importance of acting against cyberbullies by blocking and reporting their accounts on social media sites. By providing evidence such as screenshots, audio clips, or video clips of bullying incidents. Individuals can help the authorities or platform administrators take appropriate action. Reporting cyberbullies can lead to consequences for their actions and help protect potential victims. Protect your data: This countermeasure focuses on protecting personal information and data from cyberbullies. It is recommended to use strong, distinct passwords for different accounts and protect sensitive information with encryption to prevent unauthorized access. By implementing these steps, individuals can make it more difficult for cyberbullies to obtain and misuse personal information with malicious intent. For example, when a bully can only get someone’s information in one specific app and cannot access other apps. Spreading awareness: This countermeasure emphasizes the importance of creating campaigns and organizations to raise awareness about cyberbullying. By informing parents, teachers, and potential victims of cyberbullying, individuals can promote awareness of the problem and its potential consequences. Spreading awareness can also encourage victims to seek help and support while enabling them to recognize and address incidents of cyberbullying effectively. Overall, the proposed countermeasures provide practical strategies to address cyberbullying. It focuses on proactive measures such as reporting, protecting personal data, and raising awareness. The first of these recommendations is for parents who need to educate their children about how to deal with cyberbullying threats, which greatly affect people’s psychology and morale, and to place some warnings on them to deal with bullies and avoid these bullying operations. The best solution to effectively avoid cyberbullying is to encourage individuals to report instances of cyberbullying to the appropriate authorities. Reporting cyberbullies is crucial for several reasons: Rapid response: Rapid reporting of cyberbullying allows platforms to take immediate action, such as suspending or blocking bullies’ accounts, Prompt reporting helps prevent further harm. Accountability: Reporting holds cyberbullies accountable for their actions. It creates a record of evidence that can be used to identify and treat perpetrators, leading to consequences that may discourage future bullying. Block and ignore the cyberbully: One effective way to deal with cyberbullying is to block the person who is engaging in the behavior. Most social media platforms and messaging apps provide blocking features that prevent the person from contacting or interacting with you. Additionally, make a conscious effort to ignore any further attempts by the cyberbully to engage with you. By not responding or giving them attention, you may discourage their behavior and reduce the impact it has on you. Page | 15 References Bauman, S. (2015). Types of cyberbullying.
