This is the first of three assignments dedicated to studying the historically marginalized group you were assigned.
Purpose:
Students will analyze the overt and covert messages from pop culture about people who are historically marginalized in society. Students will utilize information from scholarly literature as a foundation to their analysis.
See assignment specifications in the syllabus and assignment 4 in the Digital Campus, as well as the grading rubric.
Use of your assigned historically marginalized group
Paper does not exceed 2000 words (1000 words for each analysis)
Identify 3-4 popular cultural portrayals
At least 2 scholarly articles that analyze popular cultural portrayals of your assigned group. Readings in the disciplines of critical media studies or critical communication studies are suggested.
