This paper is meant to bring together much of the work we’ve done together and allow you to see how much you have learned, how important the subject is, and how studying religion has enriched the study of other subjects as well. For this assignment, begin by looking back at the pretest we took at the very beginning of our course. You should find there several questions that you now can answer where you could not before, questions where your understanding has deepened, and questions where ou course has made you see things in a new or different way. Choose five of these questions to work with for your essay. The essay For the essay, you will be writing a critical evaluation of the five answers you gave on the pretest. A critical evaluation is not negative. It simply means that you will evaluate how your thinking or understanding has changed in light of the course materials and conversations. You might begin by writing, “Initially, I thought that. . . ” or “At the beginning of the course, I did not know. . .” and then go on to explain how your mind has changed, what you learned, or how you now see things differently. To support your assertions, your essay needs to incorporate at least 10 of the materials from this course. Look back at all of our materials for this course and choose specific examples of concepts, ideas, or topics that you consider especially important or were influential in your learning. These examples should have some meaning to you, and they can be as short as a sentence or concept, or as long as an entire chapter. You can break these up any way that you choose, and they can be from any of the readings or videos or podcasts from the beginning of the course. For the videos or podcasts, be https://brightspace.ndm.edu/d2l/le/content/29835/viewContent/488095/View 1/2 4/25/24, 7:54 PM Basic Page sure to give a specific time stamp or otherwise list a location in the video or podcast. No research is required outside of the course materials and your own mind. IMPORTANT NOTE: Please do not simply choose ten sentences or ideas from the course textbook. Try to make your selections broad and diverse. Ten selections from the textbook will mean to me that you have put in little effort, and your grade will reflect this. Finally, after you have considered all the work we’ve done this semester, suggest one more reading, video, podcast, or other material that we did not use this semester for possible inclusion in a future course. How would this resource relate to the material and help students understand it better? Your essay should be no less than 1500 words, though you may take as much room as you like. Grammar, spelling, and punctuation count, so be sure to proofread. You can treat this as an informal essay, not a research paper, so no abstract or bibliography page is required. You should make sure I know which materials you are referring to, however. This assignment is worth 100 points and is the final assignment for this course, so be sure to take it seriously. It is NOT a violation of the honor code to discuss this among yourselves, and you are encouraged to do so. Any questions at all, please contact me. Late papers not accepted without prior permission. Really, it’s the end of the semester and I am not joking. https://brightspace.ndm.edu/d2l/le/content/29835/viewContent/488095/View 2/2
