Case study wrongful conviction
Paper: Case Study: The best way to absorb the pathos of wrongful conviction is to conduct an in- depth study of a single case. Each student, therefore, will be required to write a paper discussing the specifics of the Ron Williamson case that was chronicled in John Grisham’s book The Innocent an (e.g., list the crime or crimes of which Ron Williamson was convicted, what sentence was given to Williamson, what happened in the criminal justice system that lead to Williamson’s wrongful conviction, how was Williamson exonerated, how much time did Williamson serve in jail or prison). During the wrongful conviction course several factors associated with wrongful conviction are discussed (e.g., eyewitness error, forensic error, false confessions, false accusations, police error or misconduct, prosecutorial error or misconduct, defense lawyer error or misconduct, and ‘other factors’). Several of these factors were present in the Ron Williamson case. Be sure to specifically list and address any of these factors.
