Cull words your free-form writing. Your vocabulary words should reflect meaning (using analogous colors because they are harmonious–expressing a oneness with the earth; use a contour line to express emptiness; work in photography to capture the ephemeral moment; monumental sculpture to work with the ego, etc. ). Points will be deducted if you only use vocabulary just to show off that you know the term. Do not tell us what the portrait does NOT have. Your description must be useful and expressive to allow your reader to deeply know and visualize your work. Use at least one more Method of Analysis in addition to a Formal Analysis to tell us about your work. It will likely be a Biographical Analysis and a Contextual Analysis. Be specific in letting us know which method you are using. Your work should fit cleanly into one of the art movements or ‘-isms’ in Chapter 3.9 and 3.10. You must explicitly define the movement and write how your work exemplifies the category. This includes: Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art, Minimalism, Conceptual Art, Performance Art, Body Art, Earthworks, Postmodernism, Multiculturalism, Visionary Art, Outsider Art, Neo-Expressionist Art, Video Art and more. Feel free to include information from Chapter 4.90 as it relates to you. And finally, express to your reader why such a work is needed today.
