Speech 3 – Persuasive Speech TOPIC SELECTION ● Using the topic you chose from the list, focus on identifying a solution based upon the cause of the problem. ● The speech should be well researched and provide actions that your audience can actually take. DELIVERY ● 4-6 minute speech (time starts when you start speaking) ● Do NOT read your speech. Make sure you are making eye contact with the camera or audience. ● You will need to record your speech through either Zoom OR record and upload to an UNLISTED YouTube channel. (Make sure your channel/video is NOT private or has any restrictions on it). ● You should only use 2 notecards. Do not write out your speech and do not read from a screen. ● Step AWAY from your camera and frame yourself from the waist up. Raise the camera to at or above your eye level (I should not be “looking up” at you). Be aware of your background in the video. (No points deducted for cute pets in the video ) CONTENT ● You will include the 5 part introduction, 3 body points, and 3 point conclusion as demonstrated on the attached outline. • Point 1: Explain the issue • Point 2: What plan do you propose? Does it fix the problem or just make the symptoms a little better? • Point 3: What are the benefits of your plan? What does the future look like if your plan is enacted? ● For full credit, you must include a minimum of 6 CREDIBLE sources. (If you don’t know if a source is credible, ask!) No encyclopedias, No dictionaries. ● 3 sources must be print sources (books, journals, government reports/documents). Of the remaining 3, only 1 can be a website source. ● The link to the video will be submitted into the Dropbox labeled Speech 3. Also submit the reference page to the Dropbox labeled Speech 3. ● The sources must be orally stated during your speech at the place where they are being used.
