Personality type
This discussion is a self-reflection assignment.
Take the online version of the Myers-Briggs personality test.
What you will be doing is discovering your personality type based on four categories:
Introverted vs. Extraverted: How you expend energy
Sensing vs. Intuition: How you receive information
Thinking vs. Feeling: How you make decisions
- Judging vs. Perceiving: How you see the world
Follow the links to interpretation after you take the test. For more interpretations, you can go here. There are lots of other interpretive sites. (That one will actually give you career ideas).
Some points to consider:
- Your results are on a continuum (make sure you know how to interpret scores along a continuum, or ask me). There are no good scores or bad scores, just descriptions.
If you are somewhere in the middle, it means you don’t have a strong tendency towards one end of the continuum. For instance, if someone scores a 45 or a 52 or a 57 on introversion-extraversion, that is their type. They’re neither strongly introverted nor strongly extraverted. If, on the other hand, you score very high or very low on one type, then you do have a decided tendency. (A 40 or 60 might be a “slight” tendency depending on what you think.)
Introversion-extraversion does NOT refer to being shy or outgoing! It refers to how much energy it takes for you to be around other people versus how much energy it takes for you to be alone.
- Judging has nothing to do with being judgmental.
Step by Step:
Part I (16 points)
- Publish your results and give a brief explanation of your personality type based on the results and interpretations you have read online. (10 points)
Do you think the results are accurate? (2 Points)
Based on the interpretations you have read, do you think you are well-suited for the career you have chosen? (Or, if you haven’t chosen a career, did it give you any ideas?) (2 Points)
Address each continuum and describe how it does or does not fit how you describe yourself in real life. And remember, if your score is close to 50, that means you are somewhere in the middle and you don’t have a strong tendency of one type over the other. For example, you could write, “I scored 20 on sensing. I think this was accurate because…” (2 points)
Please remember not to get into circular arguments. Use non-circular examples. Here’s an example:
“I’m really athletic because I’m good at most sports.” [Circular — so NOT good]
vs.
“I’m really athletic. I run fast and hit hard. I’m quick, in shape, and love to compete.”
As before you will need to submit your post before seeing those of others. Do not submit a blank post by ‘mistake.’ ?
Part II (4 points)
- After completing Part I, respond to 2 classmates’ posts and tell what you found interesting about their post. (2 points each)
