You will be collecting data and performing a hypothesis test of your choosing. As we move forward to working on that project I want everyone to start thinking about what they are interested in researching.

Please answer the following questions and then respond to others.

What are you thinking of as a question you want to use hypothesis testing to address? Please make sure to make it about economics in some way, shape or form

How will and where will you gather data?

Will it be one population, two population?

Will it be Z or t distribution?

Formulate a null and an alternative hypothesis and include links to websites withdata you may use.

This project is instead of a final and so please treat it as the final. The purpose of the project is to have you explore a business or economic topic you are interested in and do a hypothesis test with data that you collect. It is worth 100 points double the usual 50 points for a project. AND PLEASE MAKE SURE THIS IS YOUR OWN WORK SO PLEASE DO NOT FIND SOMETHING ONLINE TO REPURPOSE.

FYI, everyone should use an alpha level of .05. Please check the rubric for more information about grading.

Step 1. Choose topic:You may do your study on any topic. Make it interesting and note that degree of difficulty is part of the grade. You may choose any of they types of test we learn in chapters 9, 10, 11 or 13. You will have (or have had by now) a discussion about it to help you flesh out your ideas and that will give me a chance to guide you. Please make sure to make it about economics in some way, shape or form

Step 2. Figure our null and alternative hypothesis and get is approved. We will have a discussion about this so you will get to think about it and propose ideas and through that you will get your project approved. I want to help you have a topic that is doable. You will want to have a statistical question, your null and alternative hypothesis, the test you will use to analyze the results, and how you will collect the data so the conditions for inference will be satisfied.

Step 3. Collect data and do calculations: Go get your data and do the test. Use your calculator. Check your results. Maybe you will conduct a survey. Maybe you will find a data base. It’s up to you and you can follow your interests.

Step 4. Analyze your findings. Based on your calculations, do you accept or do you not accept the null hypothesis.

Step 5: Put together and presenting your project. The key to good statistical slide presentation is communication and organization. Please make sure all components of the presentation are focused on answering the question of interest and that statistical vocabulary is used correctly. It should be about five minutes long. The presentation video should include slides of the following.

Title (in the form of a question).

Introduction.In the introduction you should discuss what question you are trying to answer, why you chose this topic, what your hypotheses are, and how you will analyze your data.

Data Collection.In this section you will describe how you obtained your data.Be specific. Include pictures if relevant.

Graphs, Summary Statistics and Raw Data (two-way table for categorical/lists for quantitative). Make sure the graphs are well labeled and easy to compare. Use the graphs and summary statistics to describe the evidence (if any) for the alternative hypothesis. Then, clearly give the “two explanations” for why the data seem to support the alternative hypothesis as a transition to the formal analysis.

Analysis. In this section, identify the test you used. Give the test statistic and p-value (with interpretation).

Conclusion.In this section, you will state your conclusion. You should also discuss what you could do to improve the study next time, and any other critical reflections.
