Language Research Project
Choose one language other than English to research and create a presentation (using Google Slides or PowerPoint 12-15 slides in length)
Areas of research include: phonology, morphology, semantics, writing system (orthography), syntax, language transfer issues, and special considerations when teaching English to a student from this language background **Examples of language transfer issue: pronunciation of a certain sound, grammatical structure of a sentence, omission of articles, etc.
The last part of the project is to develop a short activity that addresses a specific language transfer issue a student from this language background may have. The activity will be designed to practice this specific issue through content area material (age appropriate). When developing the activity, specify EL’s grade level, proficiency level, and which content area you are using. If you choose to create an activity for an adult EL, make sure to use content applicable to the learner (relating to their field of work or everyday life in the English-speaking community).
