You, the traveler, will demonstrate what you have learned in the science and technology level of the campaign by composing a codex (slideshow) on a topic that correlates with the science and technology level. You will analyze a specific culture, either Ancient Egypt or Ancient Rome, and compose a slideshow displaying, analyzing, and showing the significance of ONE engineering marvel or breakthrough in science and its impact. Be sure to use proper vocabulary and terminology of the technical feat achieved by the ancients. You will explain the function of the marvel or breakthrough created by the ancients, how it was used, and created. Furthermore, you will show how the same type of scientific/engineering feats are done in modern times. As you compare past technology with current technology, you will present it with a social responsibility perspective showing the knowledge of civic responsibility. You will conclude the codex (slideshow) by explaining why it is important to continue to build/innovate with civic responsibility in mind.
The ability to analyze, extrapolate, and share data/information will be key in any industry as it shows the ability for critical and independent thinking. Likewise, it shows the development of soft skills such as using computerized presentation software, creating files, documenting source information, and being able to organize information in a coherent manner. This will serve you well once you master the TSTC realm and enter the workforce realm by being able to appreciate and demonstrate your awareness of previous technological advances, as they add to the future of industry.
Objectives
In this assignment you, the traveler will:
Analyze key aspects of science and technology for either the Ancient Egyptians and Ancient Romans and extrapolate how these developments influenced the humanities.
Demonstrate awareness of the scope and variety of works in the arts and humanities.
Articulate how these works express the values of the individual and society within an historical and social context.
Demonstrate an awareness of the creative process and why humans create.
Demonstrate critical thinking skills (CT), such as creative thinking, innovation, and inquiry, and analysis, evaluation, and synthesis of information.
Demonstrate communication skills (COM) such as effective development, interpretation, and expression of ideas through written and visual communication.
Demonstrate social responsibility (SR) intercultural competence, knowledge of civic responsibility, and the ability to engage effectively in regional, national, and global communities.
Assignment
You can embark on the next level of your journey in the humanities by showing you have mastered Module 2. To conquer level 2, you must present your findings by showing you have learned and interacted with elders from the ancient civilizations of Egypt and Rome. Only by understanding how the advancements in science and technology is central to the lives of those from said civilizations will you be able to take those tools to the next level of the course with art and see how science and technology gave rise to other elements of the humanities and allowed them to flourish.
You will upload a slideshow presentation into Canvas for grading.
The slide show will have a minimum of 15 slides and a maximum of 20 slides including a title slide, table of contents slide, separate section slides, summary slide, closing slide, MLA citation slide(s).
The slideshow will have a minimum of 10 images.
Images are to be relevant to the content.
The slides will be neat in nature.
Minimum font size 18 on all content.
Use of succinct phrasing as opposed to full sentences or paragraphs.
The text will not have images or background covering it where it cannot be deciphered.
You will embed audio/video or a script into your presentation or upload a separate audio /video or a script file and submit it via Canvas for grading.
If audio is used it must be a minimum of 3.0 minutes and a maximum of 8.0 minutes.
