Lesli Marmon Silko was a talented and captivating author who could vividly imagine various stories in her poetry. She encounters a man in her narrative “Yellow Woman” who she takes to be a ghost after hearing one of her grandfather’s stories. She tries to reconcile this fiction with her reality and becomes trapped, unable to tell what is genuine from what is part of the story. Silko does a fantastic job of capturing this in her writing, allowing for the major theme of appreciating traditional myths and traditions without evading the present. In addition, Nawal El Saadawi built her stories on the concepts of interpersonal dynamics and gender discrimination. Her novella “In Camera” presents a fictitious critique of dictatorship in which a woman defies the disciplinary system and utilizes her voice to advocate for change in the political system’s perceptions.
