Select a poem from poets.org that you enjoy, connect to, and/or find thought-provoking. Google the poem and make sure there are no online summaries, analyses, and/or posts about the poem. I will not accept an essay about a poem that has been previously analyzed or summarized.
Take a position on how you interpret the central message or meaning of the poem. Support that interpretation with analysis of the poem’s elements. See the list of Poetry Elements on Canvas.
Requirements
Central claim and body paragraphs should all be based on only one poem.
The introduction should explain why you chose the poem. You may discuss personal experience(s), why and how you connected to the poem, and/or how the poem speaks to important issues.
The central claim should have a focus, label, position, and significance.
Do not consult any outside sources.
Each body paragraph should focus on a specific element in your poem and should analyze the effect / meaning / message / interpretation of that element.
MLA format (Times New Roman 12pt. font, double-spaced, 1” margins), MLA in-text citations, and MLA Works Cited page.
Draft Requirements and Due Dates
ED1: 700 words minimum (though you may write more), including MLA Works Cited page in which you cite the poem, though the Works Cited page
