Questions to think about when reviewing your peer posters:

2. Do you have additional questions for this presenter? Please ask them – this will give you the highest points.
3. Discuss how you might implement their new information in your professional practice.
PEER #1 (Different topic) : Preserving Functional Ability Within Burn Patients (the group is bedrest but I skewed it to make it an interesting and relevant topic for myself that I wanted to learn more about)
Throughout this research process, I learned a lot about different devices to help avoid adhesions and increase the functionality of the burn patient-affected limb. It started with my focus being in the ICU since that is where I work, and while doing the project, I expanded to the entire burn care team. I learned that adhesions don’t only occur in the acute phase of the burns but the patient is at risk for developing them for years to come. I do feel like burns severely drain nurses when you take care of them because they are so tedious and the care can be very intense, the patient’s pain levels also increase with time especially if you have a full-thickness burn, after learning that, it’s easier to understand why there is not as much ROM after the ICU admission. The increase in pain leads the patient to move in whatever way is most comfortable, which usually causes ligament shortening and skin shortening and also adhesions that limit mobility.
while it was very interesting to learn about this subject, especially since I work so closely with burn patients, I won’t be presenting this poster. I have sent over the research I found to my manager and have talked about adding extra wound vacs on burns as well. The lead general surgeon is recommending that the Burn Director review it first but that individual started paternity leave two weeks ago and won’t be back for three more months, with that backup of work I am unsure they will have enough time to also make policy changes as well.
I did enjoy this assignment but feel like my poster looks very childish. I have not had to add pictures to a project in a few years and attempted to make it as interesting as possible on one page.
********PEER #2 (Different topic) :Decreasing readmission rates of heart failure clients within 30 days
Reflect on what you learned in this research process, including the development of your policy change and poster.
- I found the research process to be difficult but a great learning experience. I have more appreciation for the scholarly work conducted by nursing researchers, students, and medical professionals as a lot of dedicated time and hard work plays into the creation of research projects. In the development of my policy, I had to use critical thinking and analytical skills to assess the relevance of the evidence I was using to support my policy. It was difficult to find different levels of evidence to support my policy and it was important to learn how to locate, evaluate, and use the information found properly into my project.
Will you be presenting (or are you considering presenting) this poster to your unit at work?
- I will not be presenting my poster to my unit at work because my patient population is vastly different. I work in a trauma ICU, and we do not see many patients on our unit with heart failure as a primary diagnosis. We also do not discharge patients often from our unit. However, the information I researched was informative to me and my personal needs for expanding my knowledge
- ***********PEER#3 (Same Topic): Throughout this class, I learned that nursing research is no simple step. There’s so much that goes into it, especially investigating issues related to nursing practice and patient care. Various research methods, such as quantitative and qualitative, are used to collect and analyze data (Dang et al., 2022, p. 130). I had a lot of fun developing my policy change and poster since it was a topic I chose to complete. I think the hardest part was gathering the information to where nothing sounds repetitive, but of course, a lot of it will be since all the outcomes regarding newborn fall prevention were the same. Overall, I really enjoyed and appreciated the class work and having an understanding of what nursing research is like.I have no plans to present my poster to my unit because I work on a PCU/Med-Surg floor with adults, and my project was primarily about newborns. If I worked on an OB unit, then yes. The only thing stopping me from presenting my poster would be that it does not pertain to my unit.
