Get it written →The research project involves research on an instructor-approved topic related to your personal and professional goals, not only to inform your instructor and classmates on a specific topic, but to also gain knowledge and career-readiness skills application on your chosen discipline of interest. Choose a current issue that relates to your career choice and evaluate the most up-to-date literature and research on the topic. For example, an accounting major may do a research paper on “going green” through tax incentives or business practices. Click on the student sample proposal file below.
Topics to avoid are legalization of marijuana, abortion, global warming, steroids, and human cloning because they are too broad and/or lack scholarly research, relying too heavily on pathos or the opposite, relying too heavily on specialized technical or medical terminology. Exceptions are made if you can narrow the topic and present a scholarly aspect. For example, I approved a student’s topic proposal to research the psychological effects of abortion on women because the student was a psychology major who found academic journals published on that specific topic.
Presenting a well-developed topic proposal requires that you do preliminary research to focus your ideas. I will give final approval on your topic; therefore, you are required to write a topic proposal for my review. In a 175-250 word paragraph, provide as much detail as possible, developing the three aspects listed below. The proposal must be formatted in either MLA or APA, according to your style and documentation choice for the entire research project.
Describe the topic of your research paper.
List the aspects of the topic that you plan to develop and explain the modes of development, such as definition, cause/effect, comparison/contrast, classification, and/or policy that you plan to use to develop those aspects.
Describe, in as much detail as possible, at least two sources that you have found already. Who wrote them? What authority do they have, if any, on the issue? Where and when were they published? Are they periodicals, books, or references?
