About the Ecological Footprint
The Global Footprint Network defines an Ecological Footprint as a measurement that “adds up all the productive areas for which a population, a person or a product competes. It measures the ecological assets that a given population or product requires to produce the natural resources it consumes (including plant-based food and fiber products, livestock and fish products, timber and other forest products, space for urban infrastructure) and to absorb its waste, especially carbon emissions.”
Simply put, the ecological footprint tracks how much productive surface area of Earth an indivdual uses, and how many Earth’s it would take if every person lived like a given indivdual. This assignment will require you to find your ecoloigcal footprint and reflect on what that means for yourself and the planet as a whole.

d. What are some challenges that could prevent people from making more sustainable choices in their lives?
