E492W Second and Third Individual Segment Submissions for the Final Report
Second Individual Segment Submission: 100 points, Due April 16
Third Individual Segment Submission: 100 points, Due April 30
This prompt describes your final two individual writing assignments. Please read it carefully because these assignments are significantly different from your first individual assignment. Note that these are the only remaining individual submissions for this class.
For the Final Report submission, each person must include a section describing their experience and the lessons they learned in Senior Design. Your section will be 750-1000 words (about 2-3 pages), size 12 font (either Times New Roman or Cambria).
*Your submission must be in Microsoft Word (do not upload as a pdf or a google doc).
Your audience for this reflection includes your writing consultants, Professor Dorr, and the engineering TAs, so it is a blend of non-technical and technical readers.
Unlike the pure technical writing of all other assignments, your section will be a personal and technical narrative describing your journey developing the project with your team. Your section should use the project as the basis of your story. In other words, think of the project as a road; tell the story of where the road went, what you saw, and what you learned. You are not graded on your experience itself; you are graded on your ability to describe and reflect on your learning experience. Your personal writing, of course, must be original (not generated by AI).
You will submit your second individual submission on April 16 (two days before your System Integration Test Report). The writing consultants will grade this reflection and provide comments on how you can improve it. You will submit your third individual submission on April 30. The writing consultants will provide additional feedback. Finally, you will include your fully revised individual submission as part of the Final Report that is due on May 2.
You are strongly encouraged to work with Professor Ligorsky as you develop these submissions. Ideally, this assignment will provide a snapshot of you as a college senior and be a precious memento.
How to Structure This Reflection:
Include an introduction (1-2 paragraphs) in which you provide context about your project, team, and sponsor. You may use metadiscourse (example: in this essay I will…).
In your body paragraphs (3-5 paragraphs) elaborate on what happened during your collaboration, such as challenges, successes, and unexpected directions with your team and sponsor. As you reflect on your collaboration, provide specific examples. Paragraphs should do the following: 1) begin with a topic sentence that states the main point, 2) support the topic sentences, 3) include transitions that connect ideas in a logical and coherent way. Use proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Sentences should be well-structured and well-edited.
Conclude (1-2 paragraphs) by reflecting on the main lessons you learned in Senior Design and how you grew as an engineer and team member. What are the main takeaways you got from Senior Design? How will you draw on this experience as you complete your schooling and embark on your career?
