We often believe that healthcare is accomplished with one provider and the patient, and the truth is that health care is accomplished by a team of people.
We often believe that healthcare is accomplished with one provider and the patient, and the truth is that health care is accomplished by a team of people. The reality is that many professions must function together for the purpose of overall health improvement (Harris et al, 2015). One microsystem that closely relates to my project topic is the use of interprofessional teams. The use of interprofessional teams means there are more stakeholders in places that can speak the same language to the patients. My project will consist of exploring the relationship between the mental health of adults and their exposure to nature. Interprofessional teams such as primary care and other specialists may benefit from having an overall healthier patient and if each profession can communicate the same message to the people seeking health. The message can be stronger and have more meaning if everyone participates. This microsystem of the IPT can help develop my project because the message is cost free and only consists of encouraging the patient to get in tune with nature. The message can be walking outside, hiking, going out to the pool, or any outdoor activity. Chronic induced stress and long-term inflammation can trigger the onset of depression (Rogers, 2022). Depression and anxiety can in turn cause cardiovascular issues, decreased immune system, the development of leaky gut syndrome, and irritable bowel syndrome just to name a few (Rogers, 2022). Sometimes people come in with terrible abdominal pain and no explanation after multiple diagnostic testing, could it be that mental health is a cause of the unexplained pain? According to Association A.P (2022), children experience depression with pain and stomachaches. This symptom of depression in children can surely be experienced by adults too. Depression and anxiety spills onto other areas of people’s lives, including their physical health and collaborating with other professions to encourage the use of nature can possibly improve the overall health of a person or the community.

Manage Discussion Entry
A reading from the Clinical Microsystems Greenbook that closely relates to my project topic of sexually transmitted diseases is the chapter “Changing Sexual Behavior”. This chapter discusses the importance of sexual education and how to provide education and strategies in order to protect people with changing sexual behaviors. The chapter also provides a framework on how to develop a plan to help individuals with their sexual behavior and how to provide a safe environment for others. Education is one of the biggest factor in changing sexual behavior, and in this chapter, it discusses the importance of education and safety. This microsystem will allow me to understand the importance of my topic and to approach it by viewing the patient’s perspective. It will allow me to engage with their care, view their perspective and opinions, and improve the approach to patient’s diagnosed with sexually transmitted diseases. As stated by Likosky, 2014, “A healthcare clinical microsystem can be defined as a small group of professionals who work together on a regular basis, or as needed, to provide care to discrete populations of patients”. With this approach and system, we can better collaborate with other healthcare providers and care for patients and address their needs and concerns.
