ASSIGNMENT DETAILS
Unit 3 Assignment 1: Project Progress, Illustration, and Identification of Issues
Outcomes addressed in this activity:
Unit Outcomes:
Create diagrams and updates for a technology project.
Assess legal, ethical, social, and global implications of a technology project.
Course Outcome:
IT599-4: Ethical Theories and Practices: Evaluate information systems’ legal, ethical, social, and global implications to justify decisions and optimize social outcomes.
Purpose
Your project should now be well-defined from the proposal and implementation plans already completed. This assignment will take you further into the project by illustrating ideas (diagramming) and exploring wider implications of legal, ethical, social, and global concerns while also providing an update on the project’s progress.
All students need Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio to complete this assignment. Mac users must ensure that Office is within the same Windows environment as Visio to embed diagrams, as images/screenshots are unacceptable. No other diagramming software is allowed. Students who have chosen the Project Management Track will also need Microsoft Project.
Assignment Instructions and Requirements
First Steps
You will actively and consistently work on your project in this unit and the next few weeks.
Status Updates for Week 3
As usual, retrieve the assignment template to earn points for this assignment. Note that paragraphs will be single-spaced, and a blank line should be placed between paragraphs and headings for readability; this must look like a work document and not at all like a school paper. Keep all subheadings as presented in the template.
Cover:
Replace “Project Name” with a descriptive name for your project.
Replace “X” with either a real client’s name, a made-up client name, or your professor’s name.
Replace “Y” with your first and last names.
Replace “Z” with the date you completed this document.
Starting on page 2, replace “Content Here” with the following:
Scope Update
Provide one paragraph explaining the scope of your project. This could be partially copied from your Unit 2 Assignment Overview and Requirements.
If there are changes, explain what the changes are and why they occurred.
If there are no changes, explain why the scope has not changed.
Write 70–100 words for this section of the document.
Costs Update
If there are changes:
Option 1: Insert the same embedded Excel table you developed for Unit 2 and make changes as necessary.
Option 2: Write a paragraph of 60–90 words briefly explaining the changes.
If there are no changes:
Write a paragraph of 60–90 words explaining why there are no cost changes, what costs might be unexpected later, and/or what costs might be helpful in the future if the project scope is increased or features added.
Schedule Update
Project Management Track:
First, make a copy of your Gantt file (WBS) you submitted for Unit 2.
Rename the copy for Unit 3 (see below).
Make changes to the Unit 3 version to show completion of tasks/progress. Consider changing the color of the text or cells or applying bold to clearly identify items that have been completed.
Progress is expected and required.
Write 60-90 words in the Word template as an overview of the changes. Also, mention that full details are in the separate WBS.
IT Specialist Track:
Copy and paste your Word table schedule from your Unit 2 submission in this unit’s template.
Make changes if necessary.
Identify project progress in the table by using the Word highlighting tool in the home ribbon, changing the font color, or making use of bold or italic text. Do not use Track Changes.
Progress is expected and required.
Legal, Ethical, Social, and Global Implications
Identify a minimum of four issues/problems regarding your project that must be considered. Note that this is only identifying what problems could occur; you will devise a mitigation plan in Unit 4. If you need ideas to get started, check the Reading part of this unit.
Mention at least four separate ideas:
At least one must deal with potential legal and/or ethical problems.
At least one must address global concerns.
Identify each potential problem clearly as legal, ethical, social, and/or global.
Write 100–130 words for this section.
Present this information as a bulleted list or in a Word table (it is your choice).
Communication
Project Management Track: Communication plan
Review example plans.
In a Word table, develop at least four categories (columns).
Complete at least four meetings/update/issue rows.
IT Specialist Track: Draft of letter to stakeholders
This is a draft, which means you are simply inserting the content as regular paragraphs in the template.
Content: The purpose is to explain the project and the timeline in a letter to stakeholders.
In the first paragraph, briefly explain the project and why you are sending the letter.
In the second paragraph, present an overview of project progress (consider explaining major milestones) and when you expect the project to be completed.
Since this includes end-users and others, do not provide any technical jargon or details.
Write 80–100 words, all in paragraph form (no lists or tables).
Diagram(s)
Review diagramming information.
After checking the possibilities explained in the PDF linked directly above, create at least one Microsoft Visio diagram for your project.
Ensure that the diagram is embedded in the Word template.
Additional Proof of Progress
If visual proof is available, include screenshots or other visual proof that the work is in progress. Ensure that the images are explained.
If visual proof is not available, write 100–120 words explaining the progress you have made and what you expect to do in the next week to keep project development momentum.
Optional content
Should you feel that an additional section of information would be appropriate for your project’s documentation this week, add the subheading Addendum at the end of the template and insert this information after that subheading. This would not earn points but may help keep pertinent documentation together. It is not required to include an addendum.
Additional Parameters
This must be completed using your critical thinking and knowledge gained throughout the program instead of the direct use of source materials.
Any resources necessary for the project’s completion (such as vendors, tutorials, open-source materials, etc.) should be identified by name and full URL.
Proofread your work for grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and formality. While first-person writing is allowed and logical in parts, limit it where possible.

ASSIGNMENT DETAILS
Unit 3 Assignment 2: Peer Review
Outcomes addressed in this activity:
Unit Outcomes:
Appraise another IT project through peer review to provide useful feedback.
Assess received feedback for possible updating of the course project.
Course Outcome:
IT599-4: Ethical Theories and Practices: Evaluate information systems’ legal, ethical, social, and global implications to justify decisions and optimize social outcomes.
Purpose
This assignment is an exchange of feedback with a classmate. The hope is that some ideas from that classmate might be valuable for your project. Your instructor will assign you to a classmate for this purpose; watch email and/or the classroom early in the unit to ensure you know your partner for this small but important assignment. You will need only Microsoft Word and PG email to complete this assignment.
Assignment Instructions and Requirements
Contact your assigned classmate by school email as soon as you can. Share your Unit 2 assignments with each other by email attachment. You may include any questions you hope your classmate can answer in the body of your email.
Before exchanging feedback, make sure you read the requirements below. Then provide feedback via email. This should be done early in the unit to ensure that both you and your classmate have enough time to review each other’s feedback and thoughtfully assess the information. To meet the end of unit timing, make sure you have exchanged feedback by Sunday night at 11:59 p.m. ET.
The Peer Review Report
You must use the assignment template to earn points for this assignment. Keep all subheadings as presented in the template.
Replace “Student Name” with your name.
My review of the classmate’s project:
Write three or four main ideas of feedback for your classmate’s project. Focus on what could be improved and make sure any negative comments are framed with professional and kind wording that provides insight. Include reasons for your statements.
At least one comment must deal with social, ethical, legal, or global concerns.
Do not comment about writing errors or formatting issues; focus on the project itself.
Present these ideas in full sentences and in a bulleted list so ideas are clearly outlined.
Write at least 120 words.
Send these by email to your classmate, and then copy and paste them into the report template.
Main ideas shared with me regarding my project:
Copy and paste your classmate’s feedback ideas directly from their email. Do not make any changes.
Assessment of my classmate’s review:
Evaluate each item in your classmate’s feedback. Explain which of your classmate’s ideas might be good to incorporate into your project and/or reasons why you would not want to incorporate the feedback.
Write this as a paragraph of 90–120 words.
What to Do if the Classmate Fails to Participate
If your assigned classmate does not respond to your emails by the end of Sunday 11:59 p.m. ET, contact your instructor on Monday for further instructions.
Additional Parameters
Do not use source material; this must be completed using critical thinking and your current technology knowledge and skills.
Proofread your work for grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and formality.
Do not alter the classmate’s feedback, even if you feel the writing has errors.
