PSY 3230: Psychological Disorders

(1.) The DSM system lists “dependent personality disorder” as one of the disorders. However, there is no “independent personality disorder” listed in the classification system. Logically, there should be one listed, but it’s not there! Here are a few symptoms: “Is insensitive to the impact of his/her decisions on the welfare of others”, “Is unable to compromise due to an obsessive concern with maintaining personal autonomy”.  Answer the following in your discussion response: (1.) Why do you think this disorder is not in the DSM?  (2.) Should behavior that fits these symptoms be seen as a personality disorder?   Let’s make it more relevant to the contemporary world.  You all know about corporate executives who knowingly lie to shareholders and employees in order to steal pension money from the employees or manipulate stock prices. While doing this these people are making huge profits for themselves in the form of stock options, bonuses & salaries. Here is another response option: (3.) is this type of corporate greed a personality disorder?  It is surely unethical, but is it a personality disorder?
